Yaroshenko is in pre-infarction state - lawyer

MOSCOW. Feb 17 (Interfax) - A lawyer for Russian citizen Konstantin Yaroshenko, who is currently in prison in the U.S., said his client may die if he does receive get medical assistance.

"Yaroshenko said he may not live until Monday if they wait for doctors from Fort Dix. We have consulted with doctors and they said those are classical symptoms of an upcoming infarction and, I'm afraid, my client may die in prison if nothing is done," lawyer Alexei Tarasov said in an interview with RT television.

Tarasov said Yaroshenko has not approached the doctors and has not asked for help in person.

"I told the prison staff that, if Konstantin is really feeling so poorly as he told me, he may just not be able to come to them and complain about his health," the lawyer said.

Yaroshenko was arrested in Liberia on May 28, 2010 on the charge of preparing to smuggle a large haul of cocaine and was deported to the United States.

The Russian pilot was sentenced to 20 years in prison on September 7, 2011.
