Foreign guest opinions point to successful Olympics - ROC chief Zhukov

SOCHI. Feb 18 (Sport Express/Interfax) - Foreign guests have highly praised the 2014 Games in Sochi, Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov said.

"Overall, the general assessment by our foreign guests - IOC (International Olympic Committee) members, federation presidents, athletes, foreign tourists - shows the Olympics have been a success. Many believe virtually everything that could be done for the Olympics to be successful has been done," Zhukov said in an interview with the RT television.

"As for our results, some of them are better than expected, others worse. But I want to say: it is not over yet. Our skiers, I am certain, have yet to say their weighty word, but our biathletes got off to a bad start. Probably they will be able to show something good for their fans. Of course, we hope those who got off to a good start will continue well - figure skaters, and bobsledders, and short-track," he said.

Currently, Russia ranks second among teams. It has 19 medals: five gold, eight silver, and six bronze. Germany is leading with eight, three and two, respectively.

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi began on February 7 and will end on February 23.
