10 people from Gulnara Karimov's entourage put under investigation in Uzbekistan
TASHKENT. Feb 20 (Interfax) - The Uzbek Prosecutor General's Office is investigating the criminal case of members of the entourage of Gulnara Karimov, eldest daughter of Uzbek President Islam Karimov.
"Prosecutors are probing the criminal case of a group of individuals who registered shell companies inside and outside of Uzbekistan through forgery and illegal operations, gained and laundered illegal profits, evaded taxes, and concealed and exported foreign exchange assets," the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office said.
Ten suspects have been put under investigation, the press service said. It did not provide details.
"The inquiry into this criminal case [of ten individuals] has detected massive damage done to the country and particular companies," the press service said.
The investigators will ensure the principle of inevitability of punishment and equality before the law, it stressed.
It was reported earlier that the executives of Terra Group, Prime Media and Gamma Promotion, Rustam Madumarov, Gayane Avakyan and Yekaterina Klyuyeva from the entourage of Gulnara Karimov, were held criminally liable and brought to the Prosecutor General's Office on February 17.
It was said that Madumarov, Avakyan and Klyuyeva were taken to the Prosecutor General's Office in connection with the criminal charges brought against them on a number of counts.
