Kazakh police searching for bank bankruptcy rumor mongers
ASTANA. Feb 20 (Interfax) - The Kazakh Prosecutor General's Office said it had identified a number of persons suspected of spreading provocative information about the commercial banks Kaspi Bank, Alliance Bank and CenterCredit Bank via text messages and WhatsApp Messenger.
"The law enforcement authorities, operating on the basis of relevant statements, are conducting investigative procedures with the purpose of identifying all the individuals engaged in the spread of misinformation about the financial status of the banks," Prosecutor General's Office spokesman Nurdaulet Suindikov told a press briefing on Wednesday.
"Some of the suspects have been identified; their activity is being verified, claims have been filed and a criminal case is pending," he said.
"It has been established that the false reports about the pre-bankruptcy status of Kaspi Bank, Alliance Bank and CenterCredit Bank did not and could not have any grounds. Therefore, the disseminated information was deliberately false and aimed at destabilization," he said.
