Monument to WWI heroes to be unveiled in Moscow

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - The main monument to the heroes of WWI will be unveiled on Moscow's Poklonnaya Gora in August 2014, when the 100th anniversary of the beginning of WWI is marked, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said during a meeting with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, labor, army, and law enforcement veterans.

The meeting was held in the building of the Moscow government on Novy Arbat on Wednesday.

The mayor said all renovation work on all memorial places associated with WWI in Moscow will have been completed by early August.

"The unjustly forgotten history of World War I is now going back into school textbooks, books are being published in large circulations, films are being shot, and historical reenactment clubs are being created. Our people are again learning the names of General Brusilov, pilot Nesterov, and other outstanding military professionals," Sobyanin said.
