Integration of design bureaus and aircraft plants a priority - UAC chief
MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) plans to integrate design bureaus and aircraft plants, the president of the Russian state company, Mikhail Pogosian said in an interview with European Defence & Security Review (EDR).
The main challenge is the integration of design bureaus and aircraft plants, and UAC plans to integrate the Mikoyan Design Bureau with the Sokol aircraft plant in Nizhny Novgorod and the Tupolev Design Bureau with the Kazan aircraft plant, Pogosian said.
He said there are also plans to combine more than 80 companies that manufacture avionics and electronic components for aircraft into one group.
UAC understands that this process will be long and complex, Pogosian said.
He recalled that prior to 2010 military aircraft made up 90% of the products manufactured by UAC. Now parity has been reached with civilian aircraft. UAC has orders for 700 civilian aircraft, including 150 Sukhoi SuperJet 100s, 39 Il-76MD heavy transports and a small number of Il-96 wide bodies, Pogosian said.
