Russian watchdog expose agriculture smuggling channel from EU

MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight Service (Rosselkhoznadzor) has exposed a channel of smuggling agriculture products from the European Union.

"There is every reason to believe that we exposed a serious channel of smuggling products supervised by the veterinary oversight service from the European Union," Vladimir Menyakin, a senior Rosselkhoznadzor official told Interfax.

The smugglers used a number of refrigerators in the EU, relabeled products and produced fake veterinary certificates, he said.

Rosselkhoznadzor may introduce a ban on the delivery of products from the aforementioned refrigerators, he said. "It is quite possible that restrictions on suspected refrigerators will be introduced next week," he said.

Menyakin did not specify types of the smuggled products. Livestock products are usually subject to veterinary control.
