Lavrov plans to discuss EU's attitude to common neighbors with Luxembourg foreign minister

MOSCOW. Feb 25 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that he would like to discuss relations between Moscow and the European Union and Brussels's attitude toward ties with countries that are neighbors of both Russia and the EU at talks with his Luxembourg counterpart Jean Asselborn in Moscow.

"Today we will discuss the situation in the Russia-NATO Council and the situation in relations between Russia and the EU. It would be increasingly useful at the moment because we would like to gain a better understanding of current events in the European Union, including the EU's attitude toward out common neighbors," Lavrov said ahead of a meeting with Asselborn.

The foreign minister of Luxembourg, for his part, said that Russia and Ukraine share close historical ties.

"Russia should cooperate with the European Union in order to try to resolve this conflict. We in the European Union, for our part, are also interested in cooperating with the Russian Federation in this issue. We are interested in seeing a solution being found to this issue as soon as possible," Asselborn said.
