ArcelorMittal Temirtau to up pig iron output 11% in 2014
ALMATY. Feb 25 (Interfax) - ArcelorMittal Temirtau plans to increase production of pig iron by 11% to 3 million tonnes in 2014.
"We do not expect any decline this year. Last year we produced 2.7 million tonnes of pig iron, this year we expect three million tonnes," the Kazakhstan-based steel producer's executive director, Ivo Chmelik, said.
ArcelorMittal Temirtau (formerly Ispat Karmet), the largest steel plant in Kazakhstan, is part of Arcelor Mittal, the world's largest steel company. The group acquired the Kazakh plant in mid 1990s and made it a fully integrated metal combine. The company owns eight coalmines in the Karaganda region and four iron ore mines in the Karaganda, Akmola and Kostanai regions.
