New Ukrainian govt members to be named on Independence Square on Wednesday evening
KYIV. Feb 26 (Interfax) - The Maidan council and political parties have agreed to include public representatives in the new Ukrainian government and to introduce the new government members on Independence Square on Wednesday evening, said parliament deputy Valeriy Patskan (UDAR).
"Another meeting will begin at 5 p.m. tomorrow and the new government will be presented on Independence Square at 7 p.m.," Patskan told Channel Five on Tuesday evening after a joint sitting of the Maidan council and parties.
"Public representatives will join the government. That would be several ministries. We, members of the UDAR faction, proposed to form a public council at every ministry and to give the rank of at least a deputy minister to public council chairmen," the deputy said.
He said they had also discussed the Maidan council's election of three public delegates to negotiate with politicians.
In turn, policy expert Oleksiy Haran told Interfax at the Verkhovna Rada on Tuesday, "We invite everyone to a people's assembly at 7 p.m. tomorrow. The Maidan council wishes to propose candidates for the new government."
He said criteria for government members - professionalism, high moral standards, respect for the Maidan principles and non-involvement in corruptive practices - were discussed at the meeting.
Some quotas in the ministries dealing with humanitarian affairs, lustration and anti-corruption will be allotted to the public, Haran said.
The Maidan council will meet again on Wednesday to approve candidates for the new government. The candidates will seek approval of the parliament afterwards. "I think the parliament will not argue with the Maidan will," he noted.
Three candidates of the Maidan council to negotiate with various public groups about "filling the quotas" were appointed on Tuesday, Haran said.
