Irkutskenergo generation slumps 15% in 2013, 20% at CHPP
MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Irkutskenergo , one of Russia's largest power companies, reduced electricity generation by 14.7% or 8.963 billion kWh year-on-year in 2013, the company reported, without providing absolute figures.
The company generated 60.9 billion kWh in 2012, so the figure for 2013 could have been about 52 billion kWh.
Power generation at hydropower plants fell by 12.7% or 5.7 billion kWh in 2013 and could have totalled 39 billion kWh, compared to 44.7 billion kWh in 2012.
The results were worse than the company's forecast. In December, Irkutskenergo said that electricity generation might drop 9% to 55.35 billion kWh in 2013, including with the launch of the Boguchany HPP built by RusHydro and UC Rusal. Boguchany's operation was supposed to be the reason for a reduction in generation at combined heat-and-power plants.
Generation at CHPP tumbled 20.4% or by 3.31 billion kWh in 2013, including 7% in co-generation cycle and 33.3% in condensing cycle. As a result, it could have totalled 12.9 billion kWh for the year, down from 16.24 billion kWh in 2012. Net heat supply slumped 8.3% or by 1.8 million Gcal to 21.9 million Gcal.
Irkutskenergo said generation at HPP was determined by the requirements of the Siberia dispatching office for covering the needs of the Siberia unified power system and available backup hydro resources. Water levels in the Lake Baikal basin were lower in 2013 than in 2012.
For comparison, Russia's biggest hydropower company, RusHydro increased generation by 10.4% to a record 124 billion kWh in 2013.
