Gen. Sugrobov dismissed from police - ministry

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - The Russian Interior Ministry has confirmed that Denis Sugrobov who was earlier relieved of duties as head of the ministry's Main Directorate for Economic Security and Countering Corruption has been dismissed from the police.

"Sugrobov has in fact been dismissed from the interior authorities," the ministry spokesperson said.

All the staff from this Directorate, who are being investigated in this criminal case, were relieved of their duties earlier, he said.

It was reported that a number of the Directorate's officers were charged with abuse of office.

In February media outlets said that a criminal inquiry had been launched into abuse of office by a group of high-ranking officers from the Interior Ministry's Main Directorate for Economic Security and Countering Corruption. A number of high-ranking officers from the Directorate had their houses searched, according to reports on February 15.

On February 21 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree dismissing Police Gen. Denis Sugrobov from his post as head of the Directorate.

His deputy, Boris Kolesnikov, was arrested on February 25. The following day Basmanny Court in Moscow ordered his remand into custody.

Four of the arrested staff - Ivan Kosourov, Alexei Bodnar, Mikhail Nazarov and Sergei Borisovsky - have been charged with abuse of office with aggravated consequences, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Yet another suspect emerged in the criminal case - Salavat Mullayarov, who led the Department "B" in charge of countering public funds' embezzlements, a source familiar with the situation said on February 26. The man has been arrested.
