Ukrainian govt sees its primary task as decentralization of power, giving rights to regions - Yatsenyuk

KYIV. March 5 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said the primary task of the Ukrainian government is local self-government reform.

"Our task as the new government is the decentralization of power. Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman will be in charge of a prompt package of reforms on local self-government. Among the top priorities of the Ukrainian government today is the decentralization of power, which was formed in the past four years," he said, opening the government's meeting on Wednesday.

"We should give rights to the regions. People elected regional councils and district councils and these bodies should have appropriate powers now," Yatsenyuk said.
