CIS Council of Foreign Ministers could hold extraordinary session

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - The CIS Executive Committee is working with the Commonwealth states to ensure that an extraordinary session of the Council of Foreign Ministers is organized and held at Ukraine's request in the very near future, a spokesperson for the CIS Executive Committee told Interfax on Thursday.

"The CIS Executive Committee has received a note from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, proposing that the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers hold an extraordinary session in Kyiv on March 7, 2014, to discuss the current situation in certain parts of the country, in particular, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea," the spokesperson said.

"In accordance with the established rules, the CIS Executive Committee sent the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's note to the foreign ministries of the Commonwealth member states and is now working with them to agree on organizational matters relating to the conduct of the Council of Foreign Ministers' extraordinary session to ensure it takes place in the very near future," the statement said.

Also, the permanent representatives will be holding an extraordinary session very soon to set out their governments' positions, the statement said, without giving the exact date of the meeting.
