Nazarbayev orders defense minister to fight corruption

ASTANA. March 6 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has ordered the defense minister to take precautions against corruptive practices in the Kazakh Armed Forces, the presidential press service wrote on Twitter.

Nazarbayev said at an operative-strategic conference at the Defense Ministry that Kazakhstan was allotting large funds for national defense.

"We are concerned about corruption, which casts slurs on the army and threatens national security," the press service quoted Nazarbayev as saying.

"The defense minister must take preventive anti-corruption measures," Nazarbayev said.

"National security must be provided on a high level," the president indicated.
