Russian helicopter, drone violate Georgia's airspace - ministry
TBILISI. March 6 (Interfax) - The Georgian Foreign Ministry has accused Russia over violating the republic's airspace.
"On March 6, 2014, at approximately 12:20 p.m. Tbilisi time, a Russian Mil Mi-8 military helicopter flying from the Tskhinval region violated the airspace controlled by the Georgian central authorities and flew over the Georgian police stations and buildings located in the Gori and Kaspi districts," the Georgian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Thursday evening.
"On March 6, at approximately 6:22 p.m. Tbilisi time, a Russian unmanned aerial vehicle flying from Abkhazia infiltrated the airspace controlled by the Georgian central authorities and flew over Georgian police stations in the village of Khurcha in Zugdidi district," the ministry said.
"The Georgian Foreign Ministry expresses its concern over another instance of violation of Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty and the August 12, 2008 cease-fire agreement, and is calling on the international community and the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, as well as the European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia, to pay particular attention to the situation on the occupation line in order to prevent provocative actions on Russia's part and the attempts to escalate the situation," the statement said.
Russian officials were not available for comment on this information.
