Vasilyeva's case to be referred to court in early June - source

MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax) - Chief defendant in the Oboronservice case Yevgeniya Vasilyeva may face the court already in June, a source familiar with the situation told Interfax on Friday.

"Detectives are set to submit the bill of indictment to the prosecution service for approval in early June, as soon as she and her lawyers familiarize themselves with the case materials," he said.

The detectives simultaneously continue to probe other counts, on which the former Russian Defense Ministry official is suspected but which are not covered by the first Oboronservice case, he stressed.

"Some time later, probably before a sentence is pronounced in the first case, materials regarding other activities of [Yevgeniya] Vasilyeva and her accomplices, which the detectives consider illegal, will be referred to court," the source said.

The detectives asked the court earlier this week to set the May 26 deadline for familiarization of Vasilyeva, former head of the Russian Defense Ministry's property management department charged with fraud, with the materials of her case.

The Moscow Khamovnichesky Court upheld the detectives' request on Tuesday and agreed that the defendant and her defense team had been purposefully dragging out the process of familiarization with the case materials for four months.

Vasilyeva has been accused on twelve counts related to the selling of real estate and embezzlement of funds OJSC Oboronservice, a Defense Ministry subsidiary. The detectives charged her with a fraud conspiracy, abuse of office, excess of authority with severe consequences and money laundering by an organized group.

The detectives assessed the damage done by Vasilyeva at over 3 billion rubles.

Vasilyeva and another five defendants in this case were definitively indicted on October 4, 2013. Investigative procedures as regards Vasilyeva were completed on November 1.
