Russian Airborne Troops launch drills with a landing operation
MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax-AVN) - A landing operation involving more than 3,500 servicemen will be conducted for the first time in 20 years during command and staff exercises of the Russian Airborne Troops' Ivanovo division, Airborne Troops spokesman Lt. Col. Yevgeny Meshkov told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"Some 4,000 Airborne Troops soldiers and 36 aircraft belonging to the military-transport and army aviation fleets will take part in the drills. Airborne Troops Commander Col. Gen. Vladimir Shamanov will oversee the exercises," Meshkov said.
The military exercises were launched on March 11, and the division command will be informed of the landing operation site during the drills themselves, he said.
The Airborne Troops commander earlier ordered his units to be prepared to promptly engage in different operations at various locations with the same degree of effectiveness, he added.
