Russian seaports handle 3.9% more cargo in Jan-Feb

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Russian seaports handled 92 million tonnes of cargo in January-February 2014, 3.9% more than in the same period last year, the Association of Commercial Seaports (ASOP) said in a statement.

Dry cargo handling increased 9.6% to 39.3 million tonnes, including 16.2 million tonnes of coal, up 15.2%, 7.1 million tonnes of container cargo (+7.7%), 2 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+8.7%), 2.8 million tonnes of grain, up 290%, 1 million tonnes of ferry cargo, up 5.4% and 0.6 million tonnes of scrap metal, up 24.8%, but 4.1 million tonnes of ferrous metals (down 3.4%), 0.9 million tonnes of metal ores (-23.6%) and 0.7 million tonnes of forest products (-1.1%).

Tanker cargo totaled 52.7 million tonnes, which is 0.1% less than in January-February 2013, including crude oil - 30.9 million tonnes, down 5.6%, petroleum products - 19.1 million tonnes, up 9.3%, and liquefied gas - 2.1 million tonnes, up 5%.

Ports handled 74.2 million tonnes of export freight, up 5% year-on-year, 6.1 million tonnes of import freight, down 11.4%, 8.1 million tonnes of transit freight, up 21.5%, and 3.6 million tonnes of coastal freight, down 17.1%.
