Rosselkhoznadzor prevents sale of 26 tonnes contraband from Poland to Russia

MOSCOW. March 11 (Interfax) - Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, Rosselkhoznadzor, said it had prevented the sale of over 26 tonnes contraband lard.

Vehicles with refrigerated semitrailers containing over 26 tonnes of lard were detained in a storage facility in the city of Donetsk in Russia's Rostov region during the investigative work conducted by the Southern customs and Rosselkhoznadzor department for the Rostov and Volgograd regions, Rosselkhoznadzor said.

The cargo had no documents and its label - PL 14290201 WE - shows it is of Polish origin. The detained products were placed under secure storage. Investigative work is being held.

Supplies of pigs, pork and pork products from Poland are banned due to the outbreak of the African swine fever (ASF) registered in the country, Rosselkhoznadzor said.

The situation concerning ASF expansion will be discussed on Tuesday at a meeting of Rosselkhoznadzor Chief Sergei Dankvert and Polish Ambassador to Russia Wojciech Zajaczkowski, the Russian watchdog said.
