330 kilos of heroin seized in Moscow region
MOSCOW. March 12 (Interfax) - The Federal Drug Control Service's Moscow region department has seized about 330 kilograms of heroin and detained drug dealing group members from Central Asia, the department press service told Interfax on Wednesday.
"Officers of the Federal Drug Control Service's Moscow region department have stopped operations of an ethnic criminal group which was supplying and distributing a narcotic drug, heroin, in the Moscow region. Some 330 kilograms of heroin containing 2.5% of diacetylmorphine were impounded," the press service said.
The department learned about the criminal group operating in the Moscow region in November 2013. The next heroin shipment was due in late February - early March and drug control officers were deployed at traffic police checkpoints along the Moscow region's perimeter.
"The [drug carrying] vehicle entered the Moscow region in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo district. A police dog detected heroin on the Volga, which was travelling to Moscow along Route M-7. Over 330 kilograms of street-quality heroin containing 2.5% of diacetylmorphine were found behind the back seats and along the car's sides and reinforcing beams," it said.
