Polish monitor considers Crimean referendum to be objective indicator of public opinion
SIMFEROPOL. March 15 (Interfax) - The Crimean referendum is based on legitimate grounds, European Center for Geopolitical Analysis Center Director, Deputy of Poland's Seim of the fifth calling Mateusz Piskorski, who arrived in Simferopol as a monitor, said.
"On the one hand, international laws regulating basic rights of nations' for self-determination exist, on the other hand, Ukrainian laws do not stipulate guarantees for ensuring these rights. Nevertheless, international standards are higher than standards used by certain counties. So it can be said that the referendum has legitimate basis," Piskorski told Interfax.
Most deputies of Crimea's Supreme Council have voted for holding the referendum, Piskorski said.
"In any case, this referendum is the most objective indicator of the public opinion in Crimea," Piskorski said.
