95.6% Sevastopol people vote to join Russia - latest data from election commission

SEVASTOPOL. March 17 (Interfax) - Members of the Sevastopol City Council approved at their extraordinary session the final results of the March 16 Crimean referendum, whereby over 262,101 Sevastopol voters (95.6% of all those who cast votes) favored union with Russia, an Interfax correspondent said on Monday.

"Eighty-nine point five percent of Crimean voters took part in the Crimean referendum. Of this number, 95.6 % favored reunification with Russia," V. Medvedev told the city council.

The results of the Crimean referendum in Sevastopol were approved by the city council unanimously (61 - "pro").

The city lawmakers also authorized Coordinating council chairman Alexei Chaly to sign on behalf of the city of Sevastopol an international agreement on Sevastopol becoming part of Russia.

The council also decided to re-name itself a legislative assembly as a Russian city with a special status.
