Ukraine will not recognize Crimea's accession to Russia - Foreign Ministry
KYIV. March 18 (Interfax) - Ukraine will not recognize the Autonomous Republic of Crimea's and Sevastopol's accession to the Russian Federation, nor will it recognize independence of the self-proclaimed Republic of Crimea, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
"We do not recognize and will never recognize either Crimea's so-called independence or the so-called agreement on its accession to the Russian Federation," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a news conference on Tuesday.
The decision on absorbing Crimea by the Russian Federation is undemocratic and legally unsound, he said.
"What happened in Moscow today has nothing in common either with democracy, or the law, or common sense," Perebyinis said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, Crimean State Council Chairman Vladimir Konstantinov, Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksyonov, and Sevastopol city delegate Alexei Chaly signed a treaty on unifying Crimea, including Sevastopol, with the Russian Federation at a ceremony in Moscow on Tuesday.
The document envisions the establishment of two new entities within the Russian Federation.
