Rosneft's Sechin: shipbuilding cluster in Vladivostok open for business with Japanese partners

MOSCOW. March 19 (Interfax) - Rosneft is ready to implement a shipbuilding project in the Far East with Japanese companies, Rosneft President Igor Sechin said in a report at the 6th Russia-Japan Investment Forum in Tokyo.

Rosneft's projects on the Russian shelf require the timely supply of state-of-the-art vessels and oil and gas platforms. "In the Kara Sea alone we need more than 500 units of maritime equipment. The demand will be no smaller on the Far East shelf," Sechin said.

"For that task, today we are creating a shipbuilding cluster in the Vladivostok area. This project, secured by a massive anchor project, is open for Japanese technological partners and investors," he said.

A consortium of private investors, including Rosneft and Gazprombank , will receive 75% minus two shares in OJSC Far East Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center (FESRC) from its parent company, state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC), which will retain the rest of shares.

FESRC unites 17 shipbuilding and repair enterprises in the Far East, including the Zvezda complex in Primorye, which is the planned site for construction of shelf platforms.

USC, formed in 2007, is Russia's largest shipbuilding group and is wholly owned by the government.
