Energy System of East signs MOU with Mitsui & Co, Komai Haltec to build wind power equipment
MOSCOW. March 19 (Interfax) - OJSC RAO Energy System of East and the government of the Kamchatka territory have signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan's Mitsui & Co and Komai Haltec Inc, Energy System of East said.
A declaration of intent was also signed with the Japanese governmental New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) with regard to the development of renewable energy sources.
They are planning a pilot project to develop wind power in the Ust-Kamchatsk rural locality of the Kamchatka territory. The project envisions the integration of three wind turbines (two capable of operating in the Arctic), each with capacity of 300 kilowatts into Ust-Kamchatsk's isolated energy system. Mitsui and Komai Haltec have already developed the project's feasibility study.
It is assumed that after the necessary procedures are carried out and the final approval is received, the project will start being actively carried out.
"Together with our Japanese colleagues, we expect the first phase of the project to be carried out by the end of this year," Energy System of East's General Director, Sergey Tolstoguzov, said.
In the case of successful testing and the confirmation of the expected economic potential, the company's wind generation equipment could be seen in other isolated regions of the Far East and Far North as well, Energy System of the East said.
Energy System of East, formed in 2008 in the energy reform, includes a number of Far Eastern power companies and non-core assets. The company is part of OJSC RusHydro.
