Belarus offered to preside over 2014 CIS summits - ministry
MINSK. March 20 (Interfax) - The CIS Executive Committee has proposed Belarus to preside over the forthcoming CIS summits in 2014, a spokesperson for the Belarusian Foreign Ministry told Interfax.
The proposal was made at a meeting between Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makey and CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev, the spokesperson said.
"In particular, a proposal has been made for Belarus to preside at sessions of the councils of heads of state, heads of government and foreign ministers," the spokesperson said.
Belarus reassured that it will "promptly look at it in the spirit of our country's constructive participation in integration processes in the post-Soviet space," the spokesperson said.
The meeting also focused on preparations for the upcoming session of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers due to be held in Moscow on April 4, and on the CIS presidency in 2014.
