Spanish builders help cut cost of boring tunnels for new Moscow metro lines

MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax) - About a half of the third interchange contour of Moscow Metro will be built by specialists from Spain, said Marat Khusnullin, Deputy Moscow Mayor for City-Planning Policy and Construction.

"The Spanish teams will build approximately one half of the Third interchange contour of Moscow Metro," he said in an interview with the Russian newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta published on Friday.

Two Spanish companies will come to Moscow with their tunnel-boring machines, he said.

"For us it is also a big plus - the capital will not have to buy this equipment. Had we hired any Russian contractor, we would have had to spend budget money. With the Spanish teams, we can save between 20 and 30% of the tunnel-boring cost," the deputy mayor added.
