SMD motor rifle brigade holds exercise in Volgograd region

MOSCOW. March 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Over 1,000 troops and 200 weapons, military and special vehicles are taking part in a command post exercise (CPX) of the Southern Military District (SMD) Motor Rifle Brigade at the Prudboi combined-arms training ground in the Volgograd region, the SMD spokesperson said.

"During the exercise, the commanders and staff will be using the latest means of satellite communication to practice skills in using new automated control systems in organizing mock combat," the SMD said in a press release obtained by Interfax-AVN on Friday.

Using unmanned aerial vehicles, troops are to learning to obtain intelligence about the composition, forces, weapons, and location of the enemy's troops. The CPX focuses particularly on organization of interaction and management of units by organizing video conferences in field conditions, the statement said.

The troops are also practicing the deployment of command stations and officers' workplaces and organization of troop control during hostilities in real-time.

"During the exercise the forces are practicing elements of combat training such as rise upon alarm, moving into a rendezvous area, marching and setting up a camp equipped with fortified structures," the SMD said.

The CPX will end on March 22.
