Armenia's position on self-determination is unchanged - diplomat tells Ukrainian ambassador

YEREVAN. March 21 (Interfax) - Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharian met with Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Kukhta at the latter's request on Friday.

Kocharian reaffirmed at the meeting that "Armenia's principled position regarding the right to self-determination is unchanged and has been expressed on numerous occasions over the years," the Armenian Foreign Ministry press service told Interfax.

The centuries-long friendship between the Armenian and Ukrainian people "make up the solid foundation on which interaction between the two countries rests," he said.

It was reported earlier that Ukraine had called his ambassador to Armenia to Kyiv for consultations.

"A decision was made today to call Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Kukhta to Kyiv for consultations," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said at a news conference on Friday.

He said Kyiv was waiting for Armenia's official position on Crimea.
