Ukraine should have signed association accord with EU after legitimate authorities are formed - Lavrov

THE HAGUE. March 24 (Interfax) - Current authorities in Kyiv should have waited till a more legitimate situation is formed in Ukraine before signing any document with the European Union, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"This is a Ukrainian affair, this is an EU affair. If they made such a decision then let it be so. One thing is surprising: the signing took place when the new Ukrainian authorities are not formed. They announced the presidential election, not in line with the February 21 accords but in May, then a constitutional reform should take place, and probably it would be right from any point of view, it would be more ethical to its own people to wait from a more legitimate situation in Kyiv, in the Ukrainian authorities, before signing any agreement on behalf of the whole state," Lavrov told a news conference in The Hague on Monday.

It was reported earlier that the leaders of 28 EU member states and the leaders of the European Union on one side and Arseny Yatsenyuk, the prime minister in the new authorities in Kyiv, on the other signed the political part of the association agreement between the EU and Ukraine in Brussels on March 21.
