Ruble up against dollar, euro on Moscow Exchange, hitting monthly highs

MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - The dollar and euro were down on the Moscow Exchange in evening trading on Wednesday, as the ruble was up for its second day in a row against the bicurrency basket amid higher demand for the ruble's liquidity in connection with tax payments.

The dollar was down 8.15 kopecks from previous closing at 35.4785 rubles/$1 by 7:00 p.m. Moscow time and the euro was down 21.65 kopecks at 48.91 rubles/EUR1. The bi-currency basket ($0.55 and EUR0.45) fell 14 kopecks to 41.52 rubles.

The average weighted dollar rate in Today trading fell 35.98 kopecks from Friday to 35.4341 rubles/$1. The Tomorrow rate was down 32.89 kopecks by 7:00 p.m. at 35.4437 rubles/$1. Dollar trading amounted to $6.911 billion by that time, with $1.887 billion in Today and $5.241 billion in Tomorrow deals.

The average weighted euro Today rate fell 60.39 kopecks to 48.9233 rubles/EUR1. By 7:00 p.m., the Tomorrow rate was down 49.7 kopecks at 48.9304 rubles/EUR1. Euro trading amounted to EUR794.923 million by that time, with EUR334.848 million in Today and EUR460.075 million in Tomorrow trades.

On the money market, the overnight MosPrime Rate advanced 1 basis point to 8.18% per annum.
