Yaroshenko writes letter to Lavrov, describes his health issues - pilot's mother

ROSTOV-ON-DON. March 27 (Interfax) - Konstantin Yaroshenko, serving time in U.S. prison Fort Dix, has written a letter to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in which he described in detail his health issues, the Russian pilot's mother Lyubov Yaroshenko told Interfax.

"Due to the fact that the Fort Dix prison authorities do not provide information on Konstantin's diagnosis and results of the conducted tests, he has written a letter to the Russian foreign minister. My son described in it his state of health and the pain affecting him," Lyubov Yaroshenko said.

Yaroshenko currently experiences numbness in his legs, chest pains and headaches and has issues with his cardio-vascular system, she said.

Konstantin Yaroshenko was detained in Liberia on March 28, 2010 on the accusation of preparing for the transportation of a large batch of cocaine and was then deported to the United States. A U.S. court sentenced the Russian citizen to 20 years in prison on September 7, 2011.

The pilot's health deteriorated in early February. According to his relatives and lawyer, Yaroshenko experienced chest pains and had trouble breathing.

After the first examination was conducted the Russian Foreign Ministry said it was outraged due to the fact that an immediate medical examination of Yaroshenko, previously promised by the Fort Dix administration, turned out to formal and superficial and neither Yaroshenko nor his lawyer nor Russian diplomats had been informed of the results.

After this Yaroshenko had another examination but its results have not been released.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the U.S. has demanded unachievable conditions for Russian diplomats and doctors to meet in order to visit Yaroshenko.
