Georgian-Russian trade turnover up 51% in January-February 2014
TBILISI. March 27 (Interfax) - Foreign trade turnover between Georgia and Russia in January-February 2014 reached $121.9 million, which is a 51% increase from 2013, the Georgian National Statistics Service told Interfax on Thursday.
This has made Russia Georgia's third largest trade partner (it was Georgia's sixth largest trade partner a year ago). The trade turnover between the two countries reached 7.8% of Georgia's entire foreign trade turnover in the first two months of this year.
Exports from Georgia to Russia have increased five times, reaching $43.6 million (9.9% of the total exports),which was largely due to the access to the Russian market for Georgian wine and mineral water. The import of Russian goods to Georgia has increased by 8.9%, reaching $78.3 million (6.9% of all imports).
Russia is now Georgia's third largest trade partner after Turkey, with which Georgia has a $225.8 million trade turnover, and Azerbaijan ($187.7 million). Among Georgia's five largest trade partners are also Ukraine ($111.5 million) and China ($105.7 million).
Georgia's foreign trade turnover in January-February 2014 reached $1.5 million, which is a 17% decrease from 2013. Its trade turnover with the CIS countries has gone up 23%, to $549 million (35% of Georgia's entire foreign trade turnover).
