Aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov takes position for carrier aviation flights
SEVEROMORSK. March 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The North Fleet heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov has arrived in an area designated for carrier aviation flights southwest of Cyprus, North Fleet spokesman Capt. 1st Rank Vadim Serga told Interfax-AVN on Friday.
"Yesterday the aircraft carrier departed from the anchorage point in eastern Mediterranean. The Admiral Kuznetsov crew gave planned maintenance to the ship's systems and mechanisms and replenished the [fuel] stock from the tanker Sergei Osipov during several days of the anchorage," Serga said.
If the weather is fine, pilots of the North Fleet air wing stationed aboard the aircraft carrier will be practicing flights of Sukhoi Su-33 fighters and Kamov Ka-27 helicopters for the next few days, he said.
Since the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov departed on its distant voyage on December 17, 2013, the pilots of the North Fleet air wing have acquired significant experience in flights from the aircraft carrier deck in the high seas. In all, about 300 flights have been performed with the total duration exceeding 260 hours.
