Russian Deputy PM Golodets says Russia-China relations are "at their best" today

ST. PETERSBURG. March 28 (Interfax) - China views Russia as its important strategic partner in regional and international affairs, Chinese Deputy Prime Minister Liu Yandong said.

"Our cooperation with Russia is very close. It [Russia] is our most influential strategic partner on the regional and global scale. The further development of Chinese-Russian relations will benefit both our people and the cause of peace all over the world," Liu told reporters in St. Petersburg on Friday.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, for her part, said that relations between Russia and China "are at their best" today.

"We are pleased with the way our relations with friendly China have been developing. They are at their best today. They are of enormous importance for both countries," Golodets said at a session dedicated to the Russia-China Youth Friendly Exchanges Year.

"We wanted to compose a Song of Russian-Chinese Friendship. I am happy to say that such a song has been composed, and today we will witness its premiere," she said.

The song was written by a Chinese composer and a Chinese poet, as well as Russian musician Alexander Shevchenko.

The Russia-China Youth Friendly Exchanges Year of 2014-2015 will include up to 300 events in the two countries. More than 200,000 Russian students will be able to visit China, and Chinese young people will travel to Russia. Forty-six Russian regions will take part in the program.
