Acting Ukrainian foreign minister will not participate in CIS foreign minister meeting

KYIV. March 28 (Interfax) - Acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsya will not participate in the coming meeting of CIS foreign ministers, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

"Assuming that Ukraine has decided to terminate its chairmanship in the CIS and is considering the issue of possible termination of membership in this organization, we currently do not see the necessity in the participation of the acting foreign minister in this meeting," Ukrainian Foreign Minister information policy department director Yevhen Perebyinis said at a briefing on Friday.

At the same time, Ukraine is considering the participation of Ukrainian representatives in this meeting, Perebyinis said.

It has been reported that the CIS executive committee received a note on the termination of Ukraine's chairmanship in the CIS.

Despite the fact that Ukraine was one of the founding CIS member states upon signing the Belavezha agreement in 1991, Kyiv has not ratified their CIS Charter.
