Lukashenko plans to meet with Ukrainian interim President Turchynov soon
MINSK. March 28 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko plans to meet with Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Chairman and interim President Oleksandr Turchynov in the near future.
"I talked on the phone with [Vitali] Klitschko following the revolution. We are maintaining very close contact through the ambassador with Turchynov, who is performing presidential duties. I think we will meet in the near future to discuss the situation and, what is most important, the way we should build our relations further," Lukashenko said in an interview for the Ukrainian TV program Shuster Live.
The Belarusian leader said he had contacts with a lot of former Ukrainian opposition leaders during the standoff in Kyiv.
"After all, we are neighbors. And the main value is the people of Ukraine and the people of Belarus. There should be no breakup here. You should talk even with the devil for the sake of preventing the worst from happening," Lukashenko said.
