Russia exports 11% less copper, 4.6% less nickel in Jan-Feb
MOSCOW. March 31 (Interfax) - Russia exported 79,700 tonnes of copper and copper products in January-February 2014, down 11.4% year-on-year, the Economic Development Ministry said in its monitoring report on the Russian economy.
Refined copper exports were up 5.7% at 24,200 tonnes, while copper wiring fell 15.4% to 52,100 tonnes. Exports of other nonferrous metals also fell. Nickel and nickel product exports declined 4.6% to 29,200 tonnes. This included 4.6% decline for exports of unprocessed nickel to 28,800 tonnes.
Aluminum exports fell 26.8% in January-February to 368,800 tonnes compared with the same period of last year. This occurred due to problems with the supply of wagons, the ministry said. Untreated primary aluminum exports were down 26.5% at 338,700 tonnes.
