Approx. 15,000 Russian passports issued in Crimea, Sevastopol

SIMFEROPOL. March 31 (Interfax) - More than 60,000 passport applications have been filed with the Russian Federal Migration Service's offices in Crimea and Sevastopol and approximately 15,000 Russian passports haven been issued.

"We have received over 60,000 applications and have issued about 15,000 passports. The work goes on and it takes a certain period of time [which is necessary to produce a passport]. We have deployed sufficient infrastructure to meet the demand of residents of the peninsula," said Fyodor Karpovets, division head at the Federal Migration Service passport department.

Thirty-three offices of the Federal Migration Service are working in Crimea and Sevastopol. They accept passport applications and issue Russian passports, he noted.

Additional premises have been opened in big cities, including 20 in Sevastopol and 26 in Simferopol, to accept passport applications, Karpovets said.
