Taliban lacks strength to regain control of Kabul - Putin's envoy for Afghanistan

MOSCOW. April 2 (Interfax) - The Taliban is unlikely to take advantage of the upcoming change of leadership in Afghanistan to regain power, says Russian presidential envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov.

"It's unlikely. If the Taliban had the opportunity to return to Kabul, they wouldn't have waited for the elections," Kabulov said in an interview with Interfax.

"They don't have enough strength now to seize Kabul, and this is why they are trying to stonewall the voting," he said.

The presidential elections in Afghanistan are slated for April 5.
