U.S. suspends several cooperation projects with Russia, diverts funding to Ukraine
MOSCOW. April 2 (Interfax) - The United States has suspended a number of its projects with Russia in the framework of the Bilateral Presidential Commission, as well as several areas of cooperation between law enforcement agencies, and their funding is now being diverted to Ukraine, the U.S. Department of State said on its website.
"In response to recent events, the United States has temporarily suspended several projects planned under the auspices of the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission as well as some cooperative law enforcement activities," according to the website's section on the U.S.-Russian Bilateral Presidential Commission.
"Funding for these activities will instead be used to contribute to a package of U.S. assistance to Ukraine, following consultation with Congress," the statement said.
"(It) will support economic reform and address other pressing needs, including combating corruption and recovering stolen assets," the U.S. State Department said.
