Russia could allow fat supplies from China
MOSCOW. April 3 (Interfax) - Russia could allow fat supplies from China, Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, Rosselkhoznadzor, said.
"We are considering the possibility of allowing fat supplies from China," Rosselkhoznadzor Head Sergei Dankvert told Interfax.
This product goes mainly into industrial processing and can be more accessible, Dankvert said. In the coming two weeks Rosselkhoznadzor Deputy Head Yevgeny Nepoklonov will go to China to resolve the issue.
Russia has deficit of fat, which is used in sausage production, following the ban Russia introduced on pork and pork product supplies from the European Union due to the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak. The price for fat has grown considerably. Processors said they were forced to cut the production of some products, in particular uncooked smoked sausages.
