CIS presidents, prime ministers to meet in Belarus in 2014 - Foreign Minister Makei
MOSCOW. April 4 (Interfax) - Belarus will host a session of the CIS Prime Ministers' Council at the end of May and a session of the CIS Heads of State Council in autumn.
"We have agreed to take over the [CIS] chairmanship this year and to host a session of the CIS Prime Ministers' Council at the end of May and meetings of the Heads of State Council and the Foreign Ministers' Council of the CIS in the autumn of this year," Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei said at a press conference after a CIS ministerial meeting in Moscow on Friday.
During today's session, "great attention was paid to the issue of the CIS chairmanship in 2014 following Ukraine's decision [not to chair the CIS this year]," he said.
"I would like to say that, although it was a difficult decision to make, the Republic of Belarus treats the current situation with understanding," Makei said.
