Kyiv sees no reason to declare state of emergency in eastern Ukraine
KYIV. April 8 (Interfax) - Ukraine's acting deputy presidential chief-of-staff, Andriy Senchenko, has said that he sees no reason to declare a state of emergency in the country's eastern regions.
"Is there any reason at all today to consider such an option - the introduction of a state of emergency in the east or the southeast of our country? In my opinion, there is no such reason," he told the ICTV television station on Monday evening.
Senchenko suggested that attempts are being made in Ukraine to thwart the presidential elections, set for May 25.
The polls themselves and the legitimacy of their results may be called into question, should a state of emergency be declared, he said.
