3 Azeri servicemen killed in mine explosion, 2 injured transported to Baku

BAKU. April 8 (Interfax) - Two servicemen from the Azeri Armed Forces injured in a mine explosion on the line of contact with the Armenian side have been transported to Baku by helicopter, the Azeri Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

The injured servicemen were admitted by the central clinical hospital of the Azeri Armed Forces.

The mine exploded in the village of Jojug-Marjanly in the Jabrail district in the Fuzili section of the contact line on Monday evening. A captain and two privates from the Azeri Defense Ministry died in the explosion and eight soldiers were injured.

Azeri Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov is visiting the incident scene.

The military prosecutor's office opened a criminal case over the mine explosion.

The Azeri servicemen died on the minefield during a retreat, according to the Defense Ministry of the breakaway Republic of Nagorno Karabakh.

The incident occurred on the southeast section of the Armenia-Azeri line of contact at 10.30 p.m. on April 7, when "forces of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army, having timely detected the advancement of Azeri saboteurs, responded by throwing the adversary back to its initial positions," the defense ministry said. "During their retreat the group of saboteurs hit an explosion on the minefield. Three of them died, including one officer, and another six were injured," the Nagorno Karabakh Defense Ministry said.

There were no losses on the Armenian side, it said.
