Ukraine needs to pump add'l 11.5 bcm of gas into storage - Gazprom

NOVO-OGARYOVO. April 9 (Interfax) - Ukraine has to pump an additional 11.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas into underground storage for next winter and uninterrupted exports to Europe, Gazprom deputy chief Vitaly Markelov said during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"With the passing of the fall and winter period, there remains about 6.5 billion cubic meters of gas. In order to get through next winter, it is necessary to replenish the volume of underground storage to 18 billion cubic meters," Markelov said.

Ukraine had 19 bcm in its underground storage facilities last year, he said.

In light of this, he said, Ukraine has to pump 11.5 bcm more into storage so as to prepare for winter and uninterrupted exports to European consumers.
