Lavrov awaiting U.S. explanations over four-party meeting on Ukraine
NOVO-OGARYOVO. April 9 (Interfax) - Russia is expecting the United States to explain the purposes of calling a four-party meeting (Russia, the U.S., the EU and Ukraine) over settlement of the Ukrainian crisis, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Interfax on Wednesday.
"The dates were announced, sometime in April. It is their (America's) wish but we are waiting for the explanations of what they are going to do at the meeting," the minister said.
The Russian position is simple: because this is Ukraine's internal crisis "those who are currently in power in Kyiv must invite all the regions, all political forces to a dialogue on Constitution, language and all other aspects," he said.
A day earlier U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and later the chief of the EU diplomacy Catherine Ashton said that the four-party meeting on Ukraine is scheduled for next week.
