CIS, UN broadening antiterrorism cooperation

SOCHI. April 11 (Interfax) - The CIS Antiterrorism Center and the UN Security Council Counterterrorism Committee Executive Directorate are set to broaden data exchange in the deterrence of terrorism.

"A working meeting of CIS Antiterrorism Center chief Andrei Novikov and UN Security Council Counterterrorism Committee Executive Directorate Executive Director Jean-Paul Laborde yielded an agreement on broader interaction in the deterrence of terrorism under UN Security Council resolutions 1373, 1267 and 1989", the CIS Antiterrorism Center administration told Interfax on Friday.

The UN Security Council Counterterrorism Committee Executive Directorate Executive undertook to share with the CIS Antiterrorism Committee its reviews of the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1373 passed in 2001 and to invite CIS Antiterrorism Center experts to missions evaluating the fulfillment of this document.

In addition, the UN Security Council Counterterrorism Committee Executive Directorate Executive asked "the analysis and observation group of the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 and 1989 concerning Al-Qaida and Associated Individuals and Entities, also known as the "Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee", to appoint a liaison with the CIS Antiterrorism Center in dealing with the UN sanction list of individuals and organizations suspected of terrorism.

Novikov and Laborde met on the margins of the recent conference of chiefs of security services and law enforcement agencies attended by 79 delegations from 55 states and three international organizations.
