MGIMO cancels dismissal of Prof. Zubov
MOSCOW. April 11 (Interfax) - The Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) has canceled its decision to dismiss Prof. Andrei Zubov over his membership in a local election commission, the university said on its website.
"Under Article 29 clause 19 of the Federal law N67-FZ 'On the fundamental guarantees of Russian citizens' voting rights and right to a referendum" dated June 12, 2002, election commission members cannot be dismissed at an administration's initiative during their exercise of powers," the statement said.
The university stressed that it has not withdrawn its earlier assessment of the professor's actions. "Without changing its earlier assessment of the violation of the Regulation on the basic principles of corporate behavior, the University has decided to cancel order N649-k of March 24, 2014, regarding the dismissal of A.B. Zubov," the statement said.
This decision was made after the territorial election commission for Moscow's Khamovniki District was notified of Zubov's membership in the election commission for the polling station N161, the University said.
On March 24, MGIMO decided to end its employment contract with Zubov after the professor criticized Russia's position on Ukraine.
